I am constantly taking cuttings from random plants and trees, saving fruit stones or seeds in the hope that I can root them in water.

Of course not all are successful!

My Avocado Muse was inspired by an avocado plant I have (successfully) grown from seed in water and has been in my studio for months.

From the time it started sprouting I took a lot of photos of its progress and filled my notebook with sketches of potential work featuring this

beautiful avocado plant, my muse.

What I wanted here was to create a sense of fragility in nature, the fact this seedling is growing from one small, precious jar of water on

what appears to be very barren land but I also wanted it to express one of hope and a chance for new life.
